A panoramic view over society across ten unfortunate characters whose stories sometimes intertwine.
It’s the winter of 1942. A freight train on the section of the Slavonian railway Vinkovci-Nova Gradiska is under a special Gestapo escort. Fleeing misfortune and evil brought by war, the last wagon is the place of encounter of politicians, war smugglers, deserters and tamburitza players.
During the WWII, the communist resistance, with the help of a few local anti-fascists, makes sabotage and obstructs the actions of the Yugoslav quislings.
It follows the lives of two women: real-life painter Nives Kavurić-Kurtović and editor Ana who’s just working on editing of documentary on Nives.
After getting into conflict with the head of the construction company, the party secretary and even majority of his fellow workers who took the management’s side, Perisa writes a letter to the Central Committee asking for his labor rights. Just before the arrival of the press, an accident occurs.
Pero is about to retire, but that annoys him a bit, because he thinks that he is still agile and eager for excitement that is nowhere near in sight. One evening on their way home, Pero and Eva find a young woman in a broken elevator wearing an expensive fur coat and with several packages.
