Iris has a seemingly flawless husband, two wonderful daughters, a dental practice with a relentless stream of customers, a nice apartment in an area she loves, friends who understand her... And she’ll soon be 50. And then a stranger plants a seed in her head: "Take a lover". Iris open Pandora’s box and candidates emerge as if from nowhere – as if it were raining men.

In July 1942, during the Vel’ d’Hiv’ Roundup of Jewish families in Paris, 13 year old Tauba Birenbaum and her parents, who are Polish Jews, find refuge in a tiny room for the next 765 days. Living conditions are tough and they fear being discovered at any moment. But while her parents sink further into despair, Tauba’s fighting spirit shines through. She finds joy in every little thing, from a piano drawn on the floor, to the views of Paris through an open window. Despite extreme circumstances, she will keep hope until the liberation of Paris, and take back control of her life.

On the day Clémence realizes that no one has ever admired her, her father dies. Lulled by the illusions of the remnants of a complicated childhood, Clémence has no choice but to rebuild her self-esteem, which she never thought could be so low. When fate brings her together with a certain Paul, whom everyone nicknames Paul Pot because of his strong tendency toward tyranny, Clémence asks herself the only question that matters: is this the right person?
