"A Touch of Spice" is a story about Fanis, a young Greek boy growing up in Istanbul, whose grandfather, a culinary philosopher and mentor, teaches him that both food and life require a little salt to give them flavor. They both require... A Touch of Spice. Fanis grows up to become an excellent cook and uses his cooking skills to spice up the lives of those around him. 35 years later he leaves Athens and travels back to his birthplace of Istanbul to reunite with his grandfather and his first love. He travels back only to realize that he forgot to put a little bit of spice in his own life.

In Cyprus, an EOKA fighter (against the British Administration), Kyriakoulis, is imprisoned by the British. His comrades kidnap the son of a friend of the British Administrator in retaliation. Plans to help Kyriakoulis escape fails and the British hang him. Kyriakoulis mother intervenes magnanimously and the fighters free their prisoner.
August 1944, and a captain in the Greek army in the Middle East, Jason, secretly disembarks on an island with the mission of gathering information on the state of the German defensive positions, in view of the imminent landing of the Allied Forces. To complete his mission, he makes contact with some rebels, but the Germans are aware of his presence and arrest twelve men to force him to surrender. Shortly before the deadline expires, a local man who had been declared a deserter shortly before the war began and had been in hiding, presents himself at his post and is executed, making his wife and son proud.
