Mak is an optimist. He is driven to despair after a series of depressing events and got himself into a car accident. As he passed out, his spirit went to hell where the devils told him that he will die after the deaths of the Millionaire Wong, Ms Pao and Mr. Shek. At the same, a big bag is thrown at him from a passing car. In it is the dead body of Millionaire Wong. Mak turns to Shek's sister for help...

Chow Yun Fat leaves his buddies Eric Tsang, Stanley Fung, and Nat Chan Bak Cheung to their own devices, so the first thing the trio do is get taken hostage in a bank robbery! The trio makes it onto TV, which equals instant celebrity, but the big station in town won't give them a job. Enter Andy Lau, who gives the guys their own talk show on a rival station, where they beat up their guests for being annoying. Meanwhile, a trio of comely females (including Elizabeth Lee and Carina Lau) move in next door, and the chase is on!

Golden Sand City is filled with brothels and casinos funded by drug lord Yim Kung Ho (evil Mr. Yem) and policed by the iron fist of his henchman Panther (Leopard Head). Thanks to the help of his uncle's (Stanley Fung) girlfriend (Wong Wan Si), Robert (Frankie Chan) gets to work as a creative assistant in an advertising agency, where he falls for the beautiful manager Cleopatra (Joyce Ni). His uncle brings home an antique mirror not knowing that it hides a fox fairy. Robert inadvertently takes the mirror to the office and by chance the fox fairy is freed and possesses Cleopatra! Hopelessly bedazzled by her vixen charm, Robert is killed in a car accident while looking for the mirror thrown away by his uncle...

Rich playboy Big Lamp (Frankie Chan) comes back from France to inherit his just-deceased father's fortune, only to discover much to his dismay that his dad has donated all his wealth to charity, leaving him merely four words: Work Hard For Yourself! Falling suddenly from riches to rags, Big Lamp is forced to seek shelter at old butler Uncle Yim's (Wu Ma) home. He then hooks up with his former "Bank Check" bandmates: Gossip (Charlie Cho), Lemon Head (Liu Wai Hung), Cat's Poo (Melvin Wong), and gets involved in the fight over Lemon's sassy cousin, Sally (Sally Yeh).

A poet named Butterfly and her friend Kuen visit a stranger's mansion to return some possessions that were unintentionally taken. At the house, they stumbled upon an illegal weapons trade that ultimately went bad. To evade the police from interrogations, the two innocent witnesses wiped away their fingerprints and left a note that stated that the crimes were committed by "The Black Rose," who is known to be a fictional hero in a 1965 movie. However, a recovered fingerprint caused Kuen to be the prime suspect, and the apprentices of the Black Rose, apparently a real hero whose legacy was portrayed in the 1965 movie, attempt to seek the truth in the matter by confronting Butterfly.
