Oni is an orphan who is born blind. She is adopted by a cart puller. Despite of his blindness, Oni can cure diseases. So when her adopting parent dies, someone else takes care of her. But ever since her village is pillaged Oni lives on as a wanderer.
Amalia SH is a lawyer from the Legal Aid Institute. He visits his best friend, Frans, who is being held for extortion. Frans doesn't want to be defended. Amalia is curious. From the results of his investigation, she found Frans's diary at his parents' house. From the diary it was concluded that Frans had been naughty since childhood, his father had kicked him out for stealing. He then lived a vagrant life, until he was accommodated to become a debt collector in a company. It is in this job that he becomes acquainted with and befriends Bambang and Amalia. Frans secretly loves Amalia but doesn't dare to tell it.
Wimar and Titi’s household is breaking up after their son dies in a training aircraft. Titi’s mother accuses Wimar for causing the death, because he wanted to be a pilot like his father. Wimar doesn’t feel at home in his house. Lia is his only consolation. Then Wimar meets Ida, a former lover and in Ida’s arms, Wimar feels peaceful. Lia feels Ida is more like a mother for her. With the theme song, Indonesia Tanah Pusaka, the film’s melodrama takes on a nationalistic undertone. Hendrik Maulana, a staff officer in the Netherlands’ Indonesian Embassy, and his half-Dutch wife Nona, return to Indonesia. Hendrik is aware that he has to work hard in his country to support his family. So he trains as an air traffic controller before he returns home. However, there is still the cultural clash and his children have to adjust to school and their hometown. Then Eka, their second child, who is always the scapegoat of the family, runs away. Eka is attracted to an orphan ice seller who can support himself. He joins him selling the ice until he is stricken with typhus. His friend then breaks the news to Hendrik and Nona. Both parents rally with their three children, to complete the family again.
