Based on the facts, the story of Dr. Barbara Makowska-Witkowska, arrested in 1983 by the civil militia. She was accused of beating up and stealing a drunk patient's wallet.

September 1st, 1939. German battleship Schleswig-Holstein marks the start of World War II by firing on the garrison stationed at the Westerplatte peninsula in Poland.

The world is a mysterious place when seen through the eyes of an animal. The year 1901, a psychiatric hospital in the Russian partition. One of the patients is a political prisoner - Józef Piłsudski. The Polish underground independence movement is preparing their mission to rescue the famous activist. Piłsudski is freed, but he will not get back his idyll family life that he once knew. Uncertain years are coming, marked by revolutionary events, violence and betrayal. Pilsudski must find a way to man oeuvre on the boggy ground - between the conservative passivity of the Polish Socialist Party and the aggression against the invaders, resulting in retaliation. The year 1914 is coming, and the chance for restoring an independent country, independent Poland, is now or never.

Thousands of Polish men, both military and government officials, are captured by the invaders. Their fate will only be known several years later.

In a Polish-Jewish village, pious student Chanan, captivated by Kabbalah, falls in love with Leah, the rabbi’s daughter, but is forbidden to wed her and dies invoking the Ineffable Name - returning as a dybbuk (possessing spirit) at her wedding. Only after a mystical “trial” reveals a centuries-old vow binding their souls does the revered Rabbi Azriel exorcise the dybbuk, freeing both Leah and the restless spirit.
