Follows the students and teachers of a pre-revolutionary gymnasium in the provincial town at the beginning of 1905.

Pupils of the ordinary high school organize a “secret society” under the motto “Help the offended and weak, avenge widers and upstarts!” The new pioneer leader supports the children, and soon he manages to make the school life of the children truly fascinating.

Immediately after the prom, Olya Rusanova arrives in the city where her father worked and tragically died. Many years ago he dreamed of building a city, and now she is walking along the street bearing his name, a street without end. Having met her father’s friends, Olya learns him anew. They tell the girl how her father wanted to see large houses and wide streets on the site of the tent city. The head of the regional inspectorate of architectural and construction control, Veprev, writes a critical article to the central newspaper about shortcomings in local construction, thereby causing dissatisfaction with the regional leadership.
