There has just been a funeral. Outside the cemetery, the family members are standing and discussing how much their deceased great-uncle, the rich toy manufacturer Th. Olsen, has left behind. The family is waiting for little Cornelius Nielsen, who is always late. When he appears, a lively discussion begins about who Uncle Theobald has appointed as heir.
Ludvig Brandstrup is a radio announcer and performs with great experience in front of the microphone. But the director is not exactly taking care of his duties; he has forgotten to inform the artists who will assist with the broadcast. This forgetfulness is a very serious blunder. On top of that, an award-winning radio play, "Where is Jensen?", is to be broadcast, and now the actors are missing. Brandstrup is desperate and distraught, until he gets the bright idea to play all the roles himself.
Klaus Seeberg is conducting research to find a new perfume. His wife Dagny is growing impatient, which is why she secretly hooks up with Joachim Friis-Olsen. When Klaus discovers this, he goes to Paris to sell his invention. One evening in Paris, he meets a Danish woman named Betty. Back in Denmark, Klaus' aunt throws a party. Mrs. Adda Ernst is a middle-aged lady of the bourgeoisie. She has a nice husband Mr. Ernst, a lovely home and two healthy children Birgit and Hans, who like most of their peers are interested in swing. Mrs. Adda is musical herself, and has a beautiful singing voice, sometimes she can fall into melancholy over the career she never had. But she is naturally endowed with a rare good mood, she soon sheds her sad mood. In reality, she has only one worry. She is afraid of getting old, and therefore makes some convulsive efforts to still seem young. She refuses to realize that her daughter has grown up.
Anna Louise is tired of her life as a housewife in the country. So she seizes the opportunity when the vagabond Nick randomly rings the doorbell. She invites him in, and together they do all the work in the summer villa after the maid is sent on vacation. Anna Louise starts raising Nick, but soon the roles are reversed, so that Nick is raising Anna Louise. Then Anna Louise's husband arrives and he has difficulty handling the situation. Anna Louise and Nick leave the summer house together, with Anna Louise staying in the house maid's room without her husband's knowledge.
Hjalmar leads a double life; during the day, he is a clerk at his father’s bank while at night, he leads a notorious gang known as “Heldet” (Fortune) to pay for his prodigious womanising and gambling. When “Heldet” knocks over his own bank, Hjalmar distracts the guard while the rest of the gang cleans out the vault, then he calls the police to allay any suspicion.
