A provincial girl from Haisyn arrives in Kyiv. The capital of Ukraine becomes a transit point for the young girl on her way to her goal - the USA, where she was issued a "green card". Only 20 hours of waiting for a plane separate her from her dream. But at the train station she meets two young men who draw her into a series of adventurous and romantic adventures...

The events of the film take place in the Soviet Union in the early 1980s. It is forbidden to listen to foreign radio stations, it is not safe to voice one’s opinions in front of strangers. Words of truth are spoken only in private kitchens behind the curtained windows. The KGB tap phones, survey the ‘unreliable’ and consistently step by step destroy all forms of decent. The protagonists challenge the inhumane state machine, putting on stake their very lives and proving that nothing and nobody can stop a person who is on his way to achieve a true freedom.

A student Masha is studying in a foreign city and has no money to rent a place to live. Her father Mikhail Andreyevich searches the computer database for apartments that are temporarily vacant, and Masha uses a lock pick to open them and lives there until the owners arrive. Masha likes being a "migratory bird": life is full of exciting adventures. Their night could have been perfect if a jealous boyfriend, a jealous ex, and a DJ who has taken the blow of unrequited love hadn't met on the same dance floor!

Who and what is waiting for the man who, for the last 25 years... hasn’t been doing anything? How will he find himself in a world where old principles and loyalty have ceased to exist? The events of the film unfold during the last attempt by the KGB to seduce the poet with a whimsical "freedom".
