In Günebakan, one of the distinguished villages of Thrace, the people pray for rain due to drought, but meteorite fragments fall from the sky unexpectedly instead of rain. After that, Günebakan, normally a quiet and isolated Thracian village, became the scene of a never-before-seen turmoil.
Adil Hoca, a retired elementary school teacher, has been assigned to his hometown. While waiting for his retirement, he receives a hard slap from a young police officer in the town, and his pride is severely hurt. Determined to ensure that justice is served by having the young police officer punished, Adil Hoca does not let the slap go. He embarks on a difficult struggle, eventually achieves his goal, and turns the police slap—which everyone had told him to "forget about"—into a "national issue" by making it known throughout the country.

Some like the Mayor, Nazmi Dogan and crazy Emin appreciate these things but they are in the minority and confusion continues to reign. The story is based on the memories of writer-director Yılmaz Erdoğan of the last summer of his childhood in Hakkâri, Turkey in 1980.
