It was a foundational myth of the GDR that it was anti-fascist and free of Nazis. But was that really the case? The film takes a critical look on the actual way the brown heritage was dealt with in the GDR.

When Georg Ebers set out in search of the scroll in 1872, its existence was questionable and its sensational condition only a rumor.

In 1930s Berlin, Dr. Jakob Fabian, who works by day in advertising for a cigarette company and by night wanders the streets of the city, falls in love with an actress. As her career begins to blossom, prospects for his future begin to wane.

Jenny and her boyfriend Bolle are expecting a child. This triggers ambivalent feelings in Jenny. She has clashed with the law and the youth welfare office and her relationship with Bolle is increasingly suffering from their drug addiction.

Ilyas and Yasemin are a couple in love - until Yasemin is shot by an unknown assailant in their shared café. Ilyas' life, as well as that of their daughter Senna, completely falls apart. And as the police begin to link him and his deceased wife to the crime, Ilyas finds himself utterly bewildered. The longer the suspicions persist, the more he wonders: Was Yasemin truly the woman he loved?
