A petty gangster inevitably becomes involved in the growing anti-apartheid struggle and is forced to choose between individual gain and a united stand against the system.
Dr. Maria Berkel is on the way to her new job in a hospital of a small African village. On the domestic flight, she meets the rough-and-ready pilot Paul Freytag. At first, Maria is rejected, but with a little help from the healer N'nanga, she wins slowly the confidence of the local people. She is convinced, that contaminated water causes the disease of the villagers. But soon she realizes that people will not get sick from bacteria ...
Dramatisation of the novel of the same name written by Sindiwe Magona about Amy Biehl, an American journalist murdered in Cape Town in 1993, and the 2012 play based on it. Based on the intimate one-woman play staged by singer, actress and playwright, Thembi Mtshali, the film seeks an understanding from the mother as she explains the direct consequences of apartheid, which influenced her son's actions.
