A film made for television, based on the book of the same name by Libera Carlier. A Flemish family decides to spend the summer holidays on de Schelde. Father Janssen buys a second-hand boat and together with his wife and two sons he sets sail. What follows is a sequence of pleasant moments and disappointments, watched by the sceptical mother Janssen.
This picture is a mixture of musical, adventure, science fiction and comedy with the popular singer Bobbejaan Schoepen and several famous Flemish actors.
A batch of bottles of gold liqueur (also known as Bruidstranen) containing the original drink mixed with clandestinely distilled, toxic methyl alcohol is put on the market. One bottle is purchased by a couple on their way to a wedding party. During the wedding, the television in the kitchen next to the reception hall is showing images of the port of Antwerp, where three sailors have died after drinking from a bottle of gold liqueur. The police launch a manhunt for the perpetrators and the remains of the batch.
Hélène, a struggling young actress, is trying to learn the text of the 'Lady From the Sea' by heart. At the same time she is emptying her grandmother’s apartment. The apartment, situated near the beach, becomes a place to escape in thoughts and dreams.
The peaceful life of a notary’s family is disrupted during the Second World War when several German officers are quartered in their home, holding half a dozen fleeing Jews captive. The local resistance is determined to help the prisoners escape, but it won’t be without struggle. A worthy attempt to illustrate the futility of war, and of racism in particular.
May 1940, a mother is on the run with her two little girls. Due to a lack of gasoline she can't go far and harbours her children near a Lourdes grotto.
