A nameless waiter spends his days sitting around the house watching Faces of Death, slaughterhouse videos, pornography and the German equivalent of The Price Is Right. Deluded, deranged and believing mankind will endure the most horrible experiences, and will resort to any actions in order to sustain their own life, he snaps.

A not-so-clever guy called Bertie with an Opel Manta (a low-budget European sports coupé from the '80s) gets competition in a street race from a guy with a fast Mercedes, and another slick guy with a Ferrari tries to get his hands on Bertie's girlfriend.

In the twenty-four hours after breaking off their relationship, Eduard and Julia take a journey through a desolate urban landscape. The poetic Eduard and the enterprising Julia do not seem destined for each other. But they try again anyway.
