When Amy is woken in the middle of the night by the TARDIS telephone, she learns the Doctor carries on a very active social and adventuring life while his companions sleep.

The night River Song is imprisoned in Stormcage for killing the Eleventh Doctor, she receives a visit from her husband to take her out on their first date. Things get complicated when another River arrives.

When Amy wakes to find the Doctor carrying a euphonium guiltily, she uses the opportunity to ask a question that has been bothering her for a long time.

Dorium meets three cloaked figures, informing them that his agents have procured the exact security software they have requested. Dorium has extracted it from the memory of a Judoon trooper, admitting he decided that it was quicker to take the whole brain. He gives them the brain in exchange for a bag of sentient money. Dorium doesn't understand why they are doing all this to imprison one child, and says he's heard rumours about whose child they've taken. He asks if they are mad and if they've heard the stories about the Doctor. Dorium warns them "God help us if you've made him angry".

The Eleventh Doctor has his hand on a button that, when released, will blow up a ship that's about to destroy the Earth. He calls Amy Pond on the TARDIS phone to ask her to rescue him, but realises she can't fly the TARDIS, he doesn't have the co-ordinates to give her and she left the TARDIS long ago. The Doctor admits he just wanted to chat, says "Merry Christmas, Amelia", and releases the button. The ship explodes.

Amy leaves a message on the TARDIS' answering machine. She speaks about her baby and what to do when he finds her. She knows that her baby will become River Song, but still wants to raise her. She is living in the hope that the Eleventh Doctor will find Melody. She doesn't know if the Doctor is listening to her and is leaving a message, hoping he will listen to it. The Doctor is shown to be off to the side, silently listening to her message with all the lights in the control room turned off in an attempt to feel more at ease while in a lowly mood. He cannot bring himself to answer any of Amy's calls as they grow increasingly impatient and worried, eventually closing his eyes and trying to block out the intense feelings of regret that hearing the calls has brought upon him.
