The film is about Lakkhi (Sreelekha Mukherji), a Bengali village woman who was expecting her first baby when her husband fell from a roof and remained crippled. She lost her baby from the shock, and as a meagre compensation, is offered work as a wet-nurse in middle-class families where presumably women have other things to do than feed their children.

At 6 am on June 21, a doctor in the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic meets a woman clad in a protective suit during his morning jog. After ignoring the woman’s pleas to see a patient at her house, he receives a blow to the head and collapses. Upon waking up, he finds himself trapped in the house of three women who call each other "mamoni." The house is a swamp of time and space where the same people repeat the same actions and words every day at the same time. When the doctor, who only looks for an opportunity to escape, eventually becomes accustomed to the death-like life, a crack in time begins to appear.

The protagonist's job is driving across the country screening family planning films in villages, often meeting with unpleasant responses from his target audience. His faith in life is sustained by his love for his dream girl — a beautiful actress he saw crying away in a film five years ago and has haunted him ever since. Writer-director Buddhadev Dasgupta won the National Film Award for Best Direction.
