Shirley de Vrede is a Dutch filmmaker and actress who has been making her way into the film world through independent projects and personal storytelling. Rather than following a traditional route, she built her path step by step, driven by a strong need to tell her own stories. Born in the Netherlands, Shirley didn’t start out in film right away. Her interest in storytelling grew over time, shaped by her own experiences and perspective on life. At some point she decided to fully commit to it and studied film direction, where she learned how to turn ideas into real productions. In 2025, she released Vreemdelingen, a film she directed, wrote, and produced herself. It marked an important moment in her career, showing both her creativity and her determination to take control of the entire process. The story reflects themes that come back often in her work, like trust, tension between people, and the feeling of not quite belonging. A year later, she followed this up with A Father’s Choice in 2026, continuing to develop her voice as a filmmaker. Around the same time, she also appeared as an actress in The Chosen One, showing that her interest in film goes beyond directing and into performance as well. What stands out about Shirley is her persistence. She didn’t wait for opportunities to come to her but created them herself. Her work focuses on human emotions and difficult choices, often exploring situations where relationships are tested. She is still at the beginning of her career, but her drive and willingness to do things her own way suggest there is more to come.
