Believing that the world will end that very day, three mental patients Coco, Tsumuji, and Satoru set out upon a journey. Walking upon the tops of the walls of the city, they seek to find a picnic spot with the best vantage point to view the final event.

Classmates Shuji and Eri becomes friends, both young people have family problems. When Eri is taken away to Tokyo by her relatives, Shuji becomes increasingly isolated at school and drifts into criminal activity.

Hiroko attends the memorial service of her fiancé, Itsuki Fujii, who died in a mountain-climbing incident. Although Itsuki's mother says that their old house is gone, Hiroko records the address listed under his name in his yearbook and sends him a letter. Surprisingly, she receives a reply, and discovers it came from his old classmate, a girl who also happens to be called Itsuki Fujii.

Mashiro Shibutani and her family live in Imizu, Toyama Prefecture. She spends her days by tending to her father’s bicycle store and taking care of her pet dog. She has a minor mental disability, but it doesn't affect her daily life. One day, she visits a shrine for her older brother's wedding. There, she meets photographer Keiichi Yui who came from Tokyo. Mashiro Shibutani accidentally presses the shutter button on Keiichi’s camera, which he left with her for a short while. Keiichi is fascinated by the pictures which Mashiro took on accident. Because of this, they get closer.

After transferring to Ishinomori Middle School, Tetsuko "Alice" Arisugawa overhears her classmates discussing a strange rumor. The previous occupant of her seat, a nondescript "Judas," is missing and presumed murdered. Amidst dealing with her mother's undesired meddling in her affairs and warding off her classmates' bullying, the troubled Alice starts to investigate the mystery surrounding Judas' disappearance. The trail of clues leads her to the house of her next-door neighbor, the quirky and reclusive Hana Arai.

Haruka (Manami Higa) and Kosuke (Seiji Fukushi) are lovers and plan to marry. Haruka works as a nurse and Kosuke is a champion ski jumper. Kosuke is then selected as a member Olympic national team, but Kosuke is involved in a devastating accident while training. Haruka hears the news from Kosuke's mother and rushes to the hospital. Kosuke is now unable to move and has lost his memory. Kosuke is even unable to recognize Haruka. Nevertheless, Haruka is always by Kosuke's side as he goes through therapy. Finally, Kosuke is able to live normally and even regains his memory, but Haruka soon becomes devastated again...
