In the midst of the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan and Pakistan, a gifted child makes an extraordinary effort for his people.
In Afghanistan, "batchas" are young male prostitutes who live under the protection of a master in a house where they are trained to dance dressed as girls for a men's audience. Veteran dancer Saman starts worrying when he sees Bijane, the new recruit, who has been chosen to replace him. Despite his jealousy, he must initiate Bijane into the art of the Batcha dancing.
Kabul, August 15, 2021. US troops are preparing to withdraw from Afghanistan, while the Taliban are marching on the capital to seize power. Amid the chaos, Commander Mohamed Bida and his men are in charge of security at the French embassy, the last Western mission to remain open. Trapped along with 500 people, left to their own devices, the team must reach the airport at all costs. A perilous mission with no guarantee of success to flee the hell of Kabul and rescue what remains of humanity.
Afghanistan, summer 2021. As the Taliban gradually seize control of the country, Leila, a young widow, arrives in Kabul. She begins working in a kitchen that she discovers is part of a Bacha Bazi house. Very young, androgynous boys there dance dressed as women before audiences of men. She meets Tamim, a Bacha whom she decides to help. She will try to save other young boys and leave the country before the city falls.
