Years after moving to Tokyo with her parents, Hinako returns to her hometown in rural Shikoku. She soon learns that her childhood friend, Sayori, died several years ago and that Sayori's mother, who used to perform seances and exorcisms, has gone almost insane with grief. After seeing Sayori's ghost several times during the night, Hinako consults with some local experts on the paranormal and discovers that Sayori's mother has something planned for her daughter...

Shibata Yuichi, a soccer student, is admitted with a fracture and a tumour, facing potential amputation. Igarashi helps Yamazaki support Yuichi, but Yamazaki resigns due to lost confidence. Yuichi’s frustration leads to a misunderstanding, causing him and Igarashi to resign. A soccer match for former cancer patients, organised by Professor Oiwa, helps Yuichi regain hope.

Meanwhile, a peasant farmer named Sahei, resembling Nobunaga, is chosen by Hideyoshi and Sen no Rikyu to act as Nobunaga’s shadow. Furious at the idea of a double, Nobunaga confronts Sahei, who courageously performs the "Atsumori" dance, impressing Nobunaga enough to accept him as his Kagemusha. Sahei’s first test as the shadow warrior comes at a memorial service for the Oda family.
