Biography
Salah was a poet and a caricaturist in addition to being a screenwriter. He did not complete his studies in art but rather studied law. Salah has worked as an illustrator for several publications including the “Sabah al-Kheir” magazine and “al-Ahram” newspaper. He has authored the lyrics for several romantic and nationalistic songs in addition to screenplays and dialogues. Moreover Salah has taken part in the production of such films as “Khalli Ballak men Zuzu” (“Watch Out for Zuzu”), “Amirat Hobby Anna”, “Shafiq wa Metwally” (“Shafiqa and Metwally”) and “al-Muttawahisha” (“Monstrous”). Salah also wrote the screenplays for several puppet plays which include “al-Layla al-Akhira” (“The Last Night”), “Orbit” and “al-Qahira fee Alf ‘Aam” (“Cairo in a Thousand Days”). Moreover he also wrote episodes for “Howa wa Heyya” (“Him and Her”). Salah’s works drew significant crowds and he could have continued in cinema as he is a talented actor.

Adieu Bonaparte
This big-budget historical epic from acclaimed Egyptian director Youssef Chahine features a crazed turn by Patrice Chereau as Napoleon Bonaparte. The film, an Egyptian-French co-production, deals with Napoleon's occupation of Alexandria and its effect on a typical Egyptian family. Michel Piccoli leads the cast as a general in Napoleon's army who tentatively befriends a local poet and falls in love with two young Egyptian brothers, reflecting complex themes of colonial desire, affection, and personal connection.

Why was Cairo Calm
It begins in the days after Sadat's assassination in 1981 by an islamist cell of army officers. The American media had led an outpouring of shock and grief in the United States at the death of the heroic president. All the western leaders then travelled to Cairo to say goodbye to the man who had courageously changed the course of history. But then they found that practically no Egyptians turned up to the funeral. And the western politicians and the American TV reporters couldn't understand why. The documentary tries to find the answer.

The Bogeyman
