Two quarreling peasant families, who were forced to leave their lands after the war, are settled by accident on two neighboring farms.

A young partisan named Derkacz is fighting in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. In order to transport the wounded commander, he takes a horse from a nearby village along with its owner, teenage Józek.
