Morgan, however, is allied with a gang of outlaws headed by Hanley, and when Morgan taunts Jimmy into a fistfight the gang causes him to be railroaded to prison for felonious assault.

Against explicit orders, a vainglorious cavalry major insists on counterattacking a gang of hostile Sioux Indians. His captain refuses to comply and is arrested for insubordination and cowardice.

Gold miner Jim Golden is in love with Miss Dot, the local postmistress, but he has a reputation for being somewhat lazy and shiftless. Dolores, a dancehall girl, overhears the plot and tells Jim, causing Helen to misunderstand his motives.
