Immediately after the birth of their first child, Iris' friend Pieter confesses that he never wanted this child, has been having an affair for a year and will soon be leaving for Africa with his new love.

The film is about researcher Victor Dreissen. At his research institute, he discovers songs from Drenthe dating back to the beginning of the last century. These songs are special. They are about crimes that were committed and never solved. One song in particular captivates Victor Dreissen. He falls in love with the voice in the song and travels to Drenthe in search of its origins and background. He does not yet know that anyone who wants to sing or pursue these songs will never return.
