Swan is an old man from the country. He comes alone to the city to get medical treatment. But the city is not welcoming. Nobody wants to have anything to do with him. Then he discovers that it might have to do with his clothes - if he just had clothes like those gentlemen he sees in the streets.

Dís, 23, is still to decide what to do with her life. Obsessed by the thought of being "abnormally normal", a mere photocopy of long lost original, she wanders from one odd job to another and tries out various cources at the University. A guiding light comes her way from an unexpected direction.

She feels as if some tragedy must have befallen the people that lived there before, but when she starts asking around she gets few answers. There is something about the house that seems to be on the verge of overpowering her - something that in an unexpected way is related to her origins and permanently affects her life and destiny.

There she is constantly sexually harassed by him and treated with contempt by his wife. Agnes falls in love with Natan, a self taught homoeopathic doctor. The sheriff takes revenge on Natan by making it illegal for him to practice his profession. The dramatic relationship between the three main characters ultimately leads to a fatal web of events where a love affair turns into a nightmare of brutality and destruction.

The film tells the story of a young farmgirl moving to Reykjavík after the second world war, and her attempts to adapt to the city life.

A couple are going through a divorce, but once one of their children gets injured they start taking care of it, and maybe each other also.

Two men in their late twenties, Jim and Frank, old friends from childhood, both emaciated and very grunge guys, meet again after many years. Jim, trying hard to get his life back on track, is pulled in to his old habits of drugs and crimes by Frank and his friends from their old neighbourhood. They set out to help Frank's father to brake out of jail who in return finances their "shopping trip" to Amsterdam.
