It turns out that the murdered girl has been the victim of a serious sexual crime. Detective Inspector Irene Huss and the rest of the team begin to look for the murderer, but have very few clues to go on. When another young girl is murdered in a similar way, the team realizes that they are dealing with a sexual predator. How does he get in touch with the girls? Why do they agree to meet him? Two Boy Scouts find a buried female body in a desolate field. Irene Huss and her team begin to investigate the case. As the investigation continues, more graves are discovered, each containing a buried female body along with what appears to be a personal item. It is now clear that a horrific serial killer is rampaging in the area. The police are very puzzled and cannot find a connection between the victims other than that they are middle-aged women. At the same time, Irene begins to feel persecuted...

December 1942. Two young soldiers leave their posts at checkpoint 83 in North Värmland, Sweden and make their way through the ice cold winter night towards the Nazi-occupied Norwegian border.
