Julio César Arana, a rubber baron in the Putumayo region, who was characterized by being a callous, heartless, and debased personality, allies himself with foreign companies, to exploit rubber reserves in the Peruvian Amazon region. He stops at nothing, not even the extermination of indigenous tribes. Thus, the so-called crimes of Putumayo occur; the Amazonian communities rebel and resist.

Tirso Fabre, a militiaman and member of the Black River co-operative farm, and Chano Carrillo, a counterrevolutionary hiding behind his front as a Castro sympathizer, receive the news in different ways, in line with their antagonistic ideological positions.

Alone in a brave new world, Sergio observes the constant threat of foreign invasion while chasing young women all over Havana. He finally meets Elena, a young girl he seeks to mould into the image of his ex-wife, but at what cost to himself?

The Castro revolution was just consolidating its power when, in 1961, over 100,000 students were sent from their schools into the countryside to teach the peasants there how to read. Coinciding with the Bay of Pigs invasion, in this docudrama, 15-year-old Mario (Salvador Wood) has come to a tiny village in the Zapata swamps and gradually wins the villagers over to his task. At the same time, he receives an education in the realities of rural life from the hard-working peasants.

A group of peasants of Realengo 18 must face the greed of an American company trying to evict them from their place. One of the peasants will have to deal with the conflict of seeing her son join the rural guard who represses them.

The film is based on the historical event known as the Protest of Baraguá.
