Propaganda documentary
The focus of this wartime propaganda film from 1940 is the foreman Keith, who works at a Polish sawmill, not far from the German border. It is 1939 and the War is fast approaching. The Polish workers at the sawmill revolt and kill the mill's German owner, as well as threaten their German colleagues. Keith flees with the children of his dead boss and joins other German refugees on their way to safety across the borders of the Reich.
Fernand has escaped from prison and finds shelter in the traveling circus Barlay, where his former wife Flora works as a predator trainer. Their son, now grown up, Marcel is an art rider and does not know that Fernand is his father. Marcel loves Yvonne, the daughter of director Barlay. He is against the connection, sends his daughter to Italy and convinces Marcel that Yvonne does not return his feelings.
In the small town of New Frisco in Alberta, Canada, a stranger named Norton arrives, checks into the most expensive hotel room, and begins courting a saleswoman named Doris. Without revealing anything further to the residents, he starts tinkering with a piece of land outside of town, which arouses considerable interest in him. Inspector de Lacy also becomes very concerned about Norton, even though there is no evidence of any wrongdoing.
