The White Guard counterintelligence conducts a fruitless search for the Bolshevik agent "7+2". The search is led by officer Enger. During the NEP era, the ex-wife of a White officer, now married to a dedicated Soviet worker and lover to several bourgeois “specialists”, is expelled by her husband’s party for her affairs. Meanwhile, the commissar’s wife, once captured by White Cossacks, helps her husband lead a prisoner revolt and later serves as an exchange inspector on the commodity exchange. When she exposes the director’s fraud and her husband is wrongly implicated, both are reassigned to the provinces and depart together. Considered lost.

A remote Ukrainian village. A poor peasant, Hryhorii Malynovskyi, wants to expose those who oppose the revolutionary changes in the village - the rich, led by Konstantin Popandopul, who have made their way into the village council and are ruling there. Since poor peasants enjoy certain privileges, the rich in the village council decide to exclude Grigory from the list of poor people. Outraged, Hryhorii goes to the city and writes a letter to the newspaper. Malynovskyi is murdered. The investigator uncovers the murder and the thieves are brought to justice. The film is based on the high-profile trial of the murder of the pro-Bolshevik rural journalist Hryhorii Malynovskyi in the village of Dymivka (later renamed Malynivka in honor of Malynovskyi in Odesa province, now Mykolaiv region), promoted by Pravda newspaper and mentioned by Stalin.

In October 1917, Warrant Officer Shakhov sided with the revolution.Shakhov is disturbed by the thought that once, during the imperialist war, he was arrested for participating in a revolutionary circle and, during interrogation, while in a semi-conscious state, revealed the name of his comrade and teacher, the revolutionary Rayevsky. This offense of Shakhov's was exposed. The Revolutionary Tribunal sentences Shakhov to death. At the last moment, he is saved by Raevsky, who by then had become a significant party figure named Turbin, who tells the court about Shakhov and the circumstances in which he unknowingly became a traitor.
