The young Edward V, King of England, enters London where he is crowned. But the king's uncle, the Duke of Gloucester, eager to come to the throne, contemplates the loss of the young king and his brother. He therefore had them declared bastards and locked them up in the Tower of London. The Duke of Buckingham and the king's supporters help the two prisoners escape. They are recaptured and delivered to the assassins. Gloucester usurps the crown. But mortally wounded in the war, he succumbs, prey to the remorse awakened in his conscience by the vision of his victims.
Adapted from Hugo's eponym novel, the story concerns a Guernseyman named Gilliatt, a social outcast who falls in love with Deruchette, the niece of a local shipowner, Mess Lethierry. When Lethierry's ship is wrecked on the Roches Douvres, a perilous reef, Deruchette promises to marry whomever can salvage the ship's steam engine. Gilliatt eagerly volunteers, and the story follows both his physical trials and tribulations.
Young Werther falls in love with Charlotte, Albert's fiancée. After the wedding, Charlotte still resists Werther's love and the latter decides to shoot himself with Albert's gun.

He explains to his fellow-prisoners their dreams saying one will go free while the other will hang. His predictions come true. the King has some dreams which he wanted to have explained, and he had Joseph brought before him. Joseph explained his dreams and was made Governor.
