The painter Dubedat is seriously ill with tuberculosis. His attractive wife, Jennifer, begs the famous doctor Sir Colenso Ridgeon—who has just been knighted—to help her husband, especially since the doctor has a remedy that only he knows how to administer properly. But Sir Colenso’s clinic is overcrowded, and the doctor faces the dilemma of whether to save the brilliant painter while condemning a “less valuable” person to certain death.
The young medical student Claudia falls in love with the unknown but talented painter Stefan, whom she helps to get an assignment in Rome. They both get married before Stefan travels to Rome. When Claudia visits him there, they both spend the most wonderful days. The two's happiness doesn't last long...

This movie chronicles several pregnant women on their quest to have an abortion. Some got pregnant by accident, others were raped. Sure to offend anti-abortionists, pro-lifers, feminists and chauvinists alike. The portions of the movie that deal with European folk remedies to pregnancy are especially interesting.
