Rio Grande do Sul, 18th century. In between the arduous work on the land aiming for the prosperity of her family's farm and the constant attacks from bandits that the militias can't control, a young lady matures amidst the struggles of life. However, after saving the life of a semi-Indian, the wind brings in love, as well as tragic events to her and her family.
Passengers aboard a seemingly doomed plane reminisce about their lives, questioning the façade of their daily social activities. Once safe at Santos Dumont Airport, they go back to their old hypocritical selves.
Everything is going well between Teixeirinha and Mary Terezinha. They are finishing a film, and she is pregnant and happy. However, during a routine check-up, Teixeirinha discovers that Mary has leukemia and could die if not treated soon. Desperate, but trying to hide the truth, he sends for an American specialist who confirms the diagnosis. Accidentally, Mary learns about the illness and asks a doctor friend for her opinion. In the meantime, Teixeirinha relives the suffering of when he lost his mother and appeals to faith. He consults a spiritual healer who says that a kind woman with a beautiful smile could help him. Immersed in so many memories, he goes to the Sanctuary of Fatima in Portugal to see if he can find the path to Mary's cure.
