Padmini Kolhapure is an acclaimed Indian actress, singer, and producer known for her contributions to Hindi and Marathi cinema. She emerged as a leading actress of the 1980s, with a career spanning four decades and over 100 films. Kolhapure has received multiple accolades, including three Filmfare Awards. Since 2024, she has been the Senior Vice President of the Cine and TV Artistes' Association (CINTAA). She began her on-screen journey at age seven, going from child actor to heroine at 17. Her early works include Zindagi (1976) and Dream Girl (1977). She had her breakthrough with Satyam Shivam Sundaram (1978) as young Roopa. Born into a Marathi-Konkani family, she is the second of three daughters to musician Pandharinath Kolhapure. Her great-aunts are Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. Padmini won her first Filmfare Award at 13 for Insaaf Ka Tarazu (1980), Best Actress at 17 for Ahista Ahista (1981), and another for Prem Rog (1982). She starred in Vidhaata (1982), Woh Saat Din (1983), Souten (1983), Pyaar Jhukta Nahin (1985), and more, working with Mithun Chakraborty in several hits. After a hiatus in the 1990s, she returned in the 2000s with films like Chimani Pakhar (2000), earning a Screen Award. She ventured into TV with Ekk Nayi Pehchaan and Dil Bekaraar, and also stage productions. She launched her clothing brand "PadmaSitaa," unveiled by niece Shraddha Kapoor. Architect and Poet Salim Ahmed Salim lives in Nizamuddin, India, along with his widowed mother. He re-locates to Lucknow where he is employed with Shirazi & Company. He instructs her not to leave the house, and when she persists, he sells the house and decides to re-locate to Lahore, Pakistan. Salim attempts to stop them but Hamid assaults him and leaves him senseless. Salim does recover but takes to alcohol and a Courtesan named Phoolrani in a big way. His mother intervenes, and compels him to get married to their new neighbor's daughter, Sahira, which he reluctantly does. Now trapped in a marriage with a woman he does not love, Salim continues to frequent Phoolrani's brothel, with hopes of being re-united with his estranged sweetheart - only to find that the seemingly demure Sahira will not let go of him that easily.

Asha lives a poor lifestyle along with her widowed dad, is in love with aspiring doctor Raj Kumar, and hopes to marry him someday. Disaster strikes when an attempt is made to separate the lovers. The life of Samsher Singh alias Sobhraj begins to unravel from here. How Kunal's ethical upbringing by his foster-father, and his financial and business circumstances of his grandfather meet in a titanic conscience clash and how he resolves matters is at the nexus of the plot.
