April 21, 2002, Jean-Marie Le Pen has reached the second round of the presidential election. France is in shock. But Enzo, the son of an Italian immigrant, is happy: he'll be able to get closer to Emilie, the girl from high school with whom he's genuinely in love. She's an active member of the Front National and needs someone to help her campaign.

In a suburb of Strasbourg, Alsace, France, ten year old boy, Max, spends his summer vacation with his grandmother. He hears Manouche gypsy Romani music being played in a local bar, and loves it. He goes to visit the gypsies in search of a guitar, where he meets a young Romani tomboy, 'Swing'. She introduces Max to her gypsy community who live in caravans and down-at-heel public housing. Over several days, Max is taken into the community to witness Romani lifestyle, traditions, knowledge of plants, and particularly their Manouche music. Max is particularly fascinated by Miraldo, the Romani guitarist he first heard in the bar, and asks to take guitar lessons with him (Miraldo is played by one of the greatest guitarists of gypsy jazz, Tchavolo Schmitt).

Henri is a middle-aged writer with fading inspiration who has published nothing worthy of note in years. Feeling increasingly misunderstood by his wife and four grown up deadbeat kids, he dreams of running away to start over again. Yet when he discovers an unattractive, bad-mannered dog in his garden, he decides to adopt him and both start developing an unexpected friendship that inevitably upsets Henri’s family and neighbors.

In 1915, in the atmosphere of a French village during the First World War, we follow a teen boy who discovers the reality of war and leaves for the front in order to restore the sullied honor of his father who was executed for desertion.

The story revolves around Pierre who is 13 years old when he loses his mother. He’s a shy boy who lives only for his passion: skateboarding. Thirty-something Bertrand is a seasonal worker on Pierre’s father’s farm. United by their shared passion of skateboarding, they look to one another for the strength to rebuild and assert themselves, and to try to face up to their impossible losses.
Twenty-year-old Anaïs works with her father on a farm that is struggling to keep operating. When their fertilizer distribution machine, borrowed from the farming cooperative, is stolen, Anaïs reacts, and fights in order to continue working, and to keep her father, on the brink of giving up and selling their farm, afloat. She also grows closer with a seasonal worker who she suspects is behind the robbery.
