Nitish Mukherjee (24 November 1917 – 10 June 1965) was a renowned actor in Bengali cinema during the second half of the 20th century. He worked in both Bengali and Hindi films. He was also known as a film director and music director.

Feeling lonely after his father's death, Chandranath meets and falls in love with a poor widow's daughter during his travels. Later, secrets from her past come to haunt him.

Nabakumar, a young gentleman from Saptagram, got lost in a forest while returning from pilgrimage in Gangasagar. He met a Tantric sage who trapped him, intending to make him a sacrifice to goddess Kali; but was later freed secretly by Kapalkundala. The priest urged Nabakumar to take Kapalkundala away from her wicked foster-father and also showed Nabakumar his way to Saptagram. Now re-christened as Mrinmoyee. The sage, on the other hand, got annoyed at Kapalkundala’s betrayal and began to plot his revenge. In the meantime, Nabakumar met Padmabati, his first wife, who was converted to Islam by his father, making Nabakumar to desert her. Padmabati, now renamed as Motibibi, expressed her love for Nabakumar, but he refused her. Later the sage came to Saptagram and met Motibibi. The sage wanted to kill Kapalkundala, but Motibibi wanted to separate her from Nabkumar only.

The story revolves around the last life crisis of Jamini Mohan and his wife. After his retirement, Jamini Mohan and his wife Santoshini continued to be despised in the family of their earning sons. At this time, Gobinda, an orphan of a distant relative, became their mental hope. After facing various humiliations from their blood relationship Jamini Mohan died and as the mother of three sons, Santoshini became a burden to this family. Eventually, Gobinda became Santoshini's absolute refuge.

A naive Sanskrit poet, shunned for falling in love with a low-caste Indian woman, faces challenges after entering into a competition with a princess.

Young Mahendra belongs to a family of musicians, but once the family is cursed by their teacher. Mahendra's elder brother becomes blind and to avoid the same fate he goes to Kolkata and lives in the house of his father's friend Umeshchandra. He gets romantically involved with Umeshchandra's daughter Madhuri. Madhuri tries to make Mahendra modern and pursue his musical career. Despite his good singing ability, Mahendra refuses to accept this due to his family values. He leaves their home and takes shelter in Kolkata. But the curse strikes him also and he falls seriously ill.

Abani, a young man from a poor family, elopes with Sudha after her uncle forces her to marry a sick man. However, a misunderstanding among his family members threatens to destroy their relationship.

The story revolves around a group of hardened bachelors who meet regularly, and eventually settle for marriage. Purna is a newcomer to the group of bachelors at Professor Chandra Basu's house. Also attending are three other bachelors Akshay, Bipin, and Shirish. Akshay is ousted from the committee when he gets married. He suggests that all members meet at his place instead. Nirmala, the Professor's daughter also joins the crowd becoming the only female member. Purna is attracted to Nirmala and suggests marriage, which Nirmala refuses. Akshay has three sisters Shailabala a child widow, Nripabala and Nirabala. His mother is busy fixing matches for Nripabala and Nirabala. Finally, the two sisters are matched with Shirish and Bipin, while Nirmala and Purna get together.
