Fates Warning Live in Athens review The DVD also featuers 30 minutes of bonus footage taken from Bulgarian TV, live footage from the 2005 Holland Headway Festival (where they were joined on stage by Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater, and from personal home movies shot during the preparations for the Athens show.
A real look inside the recording process of Spock's classic V CD. iIncludes the band recording at Kevin Gilbert's studio, overdubs at Al, Ryo & Neal's houses, lyric writing sessions, kids dancing to Tarkus and Ryo recording the intro for The Great Nothing.
"The Making Of Snow" is fully dedicated to Neal's last studio work with Spock's Beard. The viewer is present when Neal is collecting his first ideas for the album overture, he watches the band jamming and recording and looks over the guys' shoulders during the mixing and mastering. In addition, this DVD documents major parts of the band's story: Neal's last two acoustic shows with the band. These two performances were the only promotion for "Snow", because shortly after that Neal announced his departure from Spock's Beard. At that time, however, Neal had already come to this decision, so during the unplugged gigs he was fighting back his tears. There was no concert tour for the album.
It was a multi-camera shoot, but back in relatively lo-res days. I have no idea where the masters are but we have been able to get a copy of the VHS and I reckon it’s something that many of you won’t have in digital form. “I have been diving deep into old videotapes of all kinds,” says Neal Morse. “Found some killer old Spock’s Beard stuff of us in Kevin Gilbert’s studio tracking music for the Day for Night album, and even older footage of us recording the Kindness of Strangers album in 1997. And if that weren’t enough — I’m also including an entire concert that was recorded when we were opening up for Dream Theater in Milwaukee in the year 2000!
This is some really vintage video that Neal found of Spock’s Beard at Progfest in 1997. Some of the songs included are: "Go the Way You Go", "The Light", "June", "Walking on the Wind". A great view of the band in the early days not to be missed.
