Abdul Rauf is a novelist. On his journey to find inspiration in the war-torn Vietnam, Rauf loses a friend in a battle. He feels the destruction of human dignity in war. In addition, Rauf fails to win the love of Bulan, the girl of his dream as her mother considers that he has no future. When he goes to Singapore, he meets Kartika, the guitar player and daughter of Dr. Ibrahim Mahmud M.A., an Indonesian dictionary researcher. Kartika happens to be a friend of Rauf’s cousin, Ria, and they have just returned from Tokyo and stopped in Singapore to visit Ria’s parent who is a diplomat. Kartika, who is spoiled by her father, is attracted to Rauf and they fall in love. Kartika’s father does not like Rauf as the latter once dubbed him as a lice-seeking grandpa. Dr. Mahmud then becomes sympathetic after he reads Rauf’s latest novel given to him by Kartika.

Two Indonesian citizens, members of a drug syndicate based in New York, leak some information to Indonesian police that Ben Murphy, a syndicate member, is now inspecting cannabis fields on the northern Borneo border. The police immediately arrest Ben Murphy, and try to get some information out of him. Ben runs away and meets Cindy Jackson, who wants revenge for the death of her lover. The police succeed in destroying the cannabis fields and the syndicate. Cindy gets involved romantically with a policeman while Ben goes with a hunter girl in the forests of Borneo.

In his wanderings, Mandala (Barry Prima) arrives in a village where a triad of Iron Heads are messing with him. They are looking for Laot (Syaiful Nazar) who saved the book left by his teacher, Ki Banta (Syamsuri Kaempuan) who the three Iron Heads are looking for. At the same time, Mandala also eradicates village robbers and sees Kupra (Syaiful Nazar), who is about to be hanged, because he is considered a robber. Kupra is saved by Mandala, but then they split up.

Two businessmen, Burhan and Benny, are rivals and Burhan hires Joko, an ex-convict who is trying to reform. Joko is asked to investigate Benny, through Leila, a hostess that Benny usually goes to. But then Joko and Leila fall in love and things do not go as planned. A accident happens and Leila is shot by Joko. Burhan dies in a car accident while Benny runs away out of the country. The reason of enmity between Burhan and Benny is unclear, nor that of Leila’s role, who knows so much about Benny’s secrets.
Dulkafar, leaves his hometown for three and a half years after his parents are murdered, and has now returned for vengeance. With his whip of fire, he defeats criminals while searching for the murderer of his parents. He also disguises himself as a “buaya Keroncong” or an expert singer in Keroncong music. His efforts finally pay off when he finds a woman wearing his mother’s necklace.

Somad and Biang Terona are sent by their master at Krakatau martial arts school to look for the rebellious student, Bodin, who is Somad’s real father. Bodin manages to marry the wife of a landlord and takes over the wealth but he becomes a dictator. His son, Tirta, also manages to displace Surya as inheritor of Bodin’s wealth. Surya is the son of Tirta’s mother with her previous husband. Finally, Biang Terona defeats Bodin, and Somad reveals that Bodin is his father. The film ends with the eruption of the Krakatau Volcano.

The Ganda family has one child named Ari who has graduated from the university and is engaged to a young woman named Mia. Karna, who has to go to Singapore for some time, leaves his daughter Ira with the Ganda family. Initially Ari see Ira as a little sister, but Mia sees her as a threat to her relationship with Ari. Mia then persuades her older brother Leo to rape Ira. The attempted rape is foiled by Ari, who begins to fall in love with Ira. Mr. Ganda, who realizes Afri’s attraction to Ira, decides to take action because he has a business relationship with Mia’s father, Brata. Mr. Ganda expels Ira from their family home and forbids Ari to continue the relationship. Ari leaves home to follow Ira, and rejects a job offer from Brata’s company. He begins working as a coolie in a new plaster factory. In the end, Karna accepts him as his son-in-law. • Initially titled "Nyanyian Cinta".
