Tomislav is a former Partizan who continues his struggle after the war as a dedicated member of Tito's secret police. He meets and falls in love with a ballet dancer from a bourgeois family. His love affair with the class enemy and his slow adaptation to the post-war realities could seal his doom.

Miroslav moves to a city and begins to study hard. He was very actively involved in the 1968 student riots. He meets Dragana, also a student activist, and they get married soon. While increasingly turning the attention to career prospects, he starts forgetting his former revolutionary slogans.

Just as the sun is setting on his life filled with disappointment and regret, an old man finds hope in an unlikely friendship.

The plot takes place on January 14, 1800 when American president’s wife Martha Washington (45) invites her husband’s long-time lover, Silvia Caver (35), over to the presidential estate.
