A celebrity journalist and a down-to-earth teacher find their relationship in rocky waters when a job gets in the way of their new life together.

Stories of three women struggling with alcohol. Dorota is a great prosecutor. Using her immunity, she tries to avoid responsibility for her offenses committed under the influence of alcohol. Her husband, a famous politician, helps her keep the problem secret and rescues her from many troubles but he slowly loses patience. A respected children surgeon Teresa has lost her family due to drinking problem, all she is left with is her job at the hospital where she is the main doctor. The situation goes out of control when the woman comes drunk to the hospital. A student, Magda, likes to party hard and because she is a good student and has a great job, no-one opposes that. At one moment, the girl loses control. A tragedy happens.

This is the story of Sylvia, who loses her stepchildren on a shopping trip in Poland. For fear of losing her husband's love too, she is unable to tell him what has happened and returns home, pretending everything is fine. When he realizes that his children are missing, the father begins a desperate search. He is ready to give up anything in order to find them. Sylvia supports him in any way; she tries to comfort him and takes care of his hope's vulnerable flame. For the first time he really needs her. While the children are trying their best to get home, the police fail in detecting their whereabouts. When a very vague trace leads to Poland, the parents hit the road to find the children on their own.

The film was inspired by one of the most important documentaries shot by Krzysztof Kieślowski, Talking Heads (1980). The director asked his interlocutors seemingly simple questions, such as “Who are you?” and “What do you want?”.

A detachment of the Polish IFOR forces in Bosnia is led by Major Keller, who is being investigated for insubordination during a patrol in Srebrenica. The investigation is to be led by two arriving officers - Lieutenant Czacki and Major Kusz who will also replace Keller as CO. When the camp's RTO receives a communication from a downed Norwegian chopper, Keller ignores his standing orders and leads a platoon to rescue the crew.

After Germany invades Poland and the Nazis order the confinement of all local Jews in the ghetto, medical doctor Artur Planck (Joseph Fiennes) manages to flee with his family, seeking refuge at the farm of Emilia (Kelly Harrison), their former grocer. A town near Warsaw. A group of teenagers rules one of the courtyards: Ali, Pawik, and Małgośka, the object of both boys' fascination. A few years later, these same young people form a typical youth gang. Ali and Pawik gather around them a group of peers who have been unable to find their place in society and want to live an easy life. Robberies and thefts are their idea of a comfortable existence. A few more years pass and the gang transforms into a mafia. After the 1989 elections, it enters into deals with politicians. It also gets into a conflict with Russian gangsters.
