The distant 17th century, where noble and courageous gentlemen, beautiful ladies and... insidious villains act, and where there are mysteries, adventures and always ardent love at first sight.

1920. The enemy of Soviet Russia is not broken everywhere. Basmachi gangs are rampaging through Turkestan. A group of kulaks, with the support of local merchants and warriors, incites the Red Army soldiers to counter-revolutionary rebellion...

Based on an opera by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, which was based on a Russian epic tale of the same name. In the old Russian city of Novgorod, the merchants are feasting in a gorgeous palace and Sadko is bragging that he can bring to their land a sweet-voiced bird of happiness. They laugh at him, but he is offered help by the Ocean King's daughter, who is mesmerized by Sadko's singing and is in love with him. The hero is destined to visit many lands in his search of the bird.

Military maneuvers are being conducted in the Kuban villages of Dalnyaya and Kochevskaya, with the participation of village Cossack detachments. The Kochevskaya reconnaissance unit is led by the dashing Cossack Mikhail, while his fiancée Dasha Gorkunova is a communications officer for the "enemy" unit. Dasha cleverly deceives her "enemy" and, having escaped from her pursuers, gives instructions to "her own."

Alexander, Boris and Vasily are old friends, who now rarely see each other as they're busy with their professional life. They embark on long-planned voyage on a raft down the Volga river, which turns into a series of comical accidents but also strengthens their friendship.
