A look at the monotonous daily struggle of a father and daughter in a windswept, desolate landscape. Over six days, their routine of eating boiled potatoes and tending a failing horse crumbles, symbolizing a slow descent into darkness, emptiness, and the end of existence.

A 5 minute dolly shot of people waiting in line for food filmed in beautiful black and white accompanied by music by Mihály Vig. This short was Béla Tarr's contribution to the Visions of Europe project.

Director Janos Xantus was in the middle of making a video about Hungarian rock star Tamas Pajor when his subject suddenly became a convert to born-again Christianity. As a result, Xantus was able to record the startling transition. Pajor had been a hell-bent rocker, heavily into drugs, and known for a violent temper. We see him become a clean-living, clean-cut youth who sings about Jesus. Xantus had captured pre-conversion tape of Pajor trashing a hotel room and punching his hand through a plate glass window. In one of this film's most effective scenes, the new Pajor, hand heavily bandaged, quietly watches this footage. Rock Terito also has some dramatic recreations, but these add little to our understanding of Pajor. A cultural history of ventriloquism disguised as a sci-fi TV series, integrating live actors with vintage and artist-made puppets. The Case of the Vanishing Gods is a fiction-doc hybrid that traces the phenomenon of ‘throwing voices’ from the oracles of ancient Greece to the spectacle of the modern horror film, and pushes the essay film into exciting new territory.

From the music of Hungarian composer Mihály Vig , Georgian filmmaker Koberidze, Alexandre crafts a story of pixelated dogs on a ledge. This short film is part of the 2x25 Project of Film Fest Gent and the World Soundtrack Awards. The project commissioned 25 composers to compose a short piece of music, after which 25 filmmakers made short films that are the ultimate symbioses of music and cinematography, fitting completely within the DNA of the festival. The result: 25 exceptional films where the music inspired the form, narrative and texture.

In socialist Hungary, during the early 1980s, underground art flourished. In this often loud, heroic, and emotion-rich world, Vig Mihály, a key member of Balaton/Trabant, represented lyricism, intimacy, and internal journeys. He composed music for the films of János Xantus, András Szirtes, and Ildikó Szabó, and later became the regular composer for the world-renowned director Béla Tarr (and was even given a lead role in the 1994 film Sátántangó). In the documentary film, he speaks about his life, the atmosphere of the era, people associated with alternative culture, and his relationship with them, in an extremely personal and detailed way. We learn his thoughts on literature, music, film, and, in general, the world. He is a relaxed, funny character who is aware of his own limitations, does not deny the darker sides of his personality, but is able to look at his fate with satisfaction.

Inhabitants of a small village in Hungary deal with the effects of the fall of Communism. The town's source of revenue, a factory, has closed, and the locals, who include a doctor and three couples, await a cash payment offered in the wake of the shuttering. Irimias, a villager thought to be dead, returns and, unbeknownst to the locals, is a police informant. In a scheme, he persuades the villagers to form a commune with him.

A coin always has two sides... Károly and Zsolt are best friends, rivals, and mortal enemies at the same time- so they're inseparable parts of each other's lives. After graduating from college, they grow apart but after more than two decades, their paths are crossing once again. The jobless and desperate Zsolt appears on the doorstep of Károly, who is struggling with his mid-life crisis. Their unexpected reunion sets up a chain of events that could potentially destroy not just them but everything the two men hold dear.
