The Spanish Deep South, 1980. A series of brutal murders of adolescent girls in a remote and forgotten town bring together two disparate characters – both detectives in the homicide division – to investigate the cases.

Ana, a young Basque woman whose husband, Tomás, is serving a sentence for terrorism in Puerto de Santa María, finds love again with Luis. Although Tomás, aware that his chances of regaining his freedom are nil, encourages her to rebuild her love life, this new relationship is met with rejection by those close to the prisoner.

Maniac Tales tells the story of Juan, a Mexican illegal immigrant in New York, who is offered a job as a doorman in an old building of the city. It turns out that the screenwriter of "Maniac Tales", a very popular TV series, lives in the building but has disappeared with the script of the last chapter of the season, and a reward is offered to whoever can find that script. Juan decides to look for it, and when he gets into the screenwriter's apartment he finds out that the TV series hides creepy secrets which are related to the building.

Ana leads a very happy life but one day, she begins to suffer strange and inexplicable diseases that will change her entire world...
