In a town there are strange deaths, apparently caused by jarjachas, monstrous creatures that incestuous lovers become at night. Cirilo, Mateo and Remigio, with the help of a priest, will try to hunt them down and eliminate them.
A professor and his students try to capture the severed head of a witch, because according to belief, they will be rewarded for it if they keep the facts secret.
It is a story imbued with popular religiosity, embodied in Rospicio Rodríguez, a Peruvian who returns from Chile to his homeland during the First World War, suddenly finds death in Mollendo and gradually becomes a local saint.
