Samstag aus Licht (Saturday from Light) is an opera by Karlheinz Stockhausen in a greeting and four scenes, and was the second of seven to be composed for the opera cycle Licht: die sieben Tage der Woche (Light: The Seven Days of the Week). It was written between 1981 and 1983, to a libretto written by the composer and incorporating a text by Saint Francis of Assisi.

Trapped in an unhappy marriage, a woman mourns the devastation of the forest around her. An unexpected affair instigates an explosive metamorphosis, and she finds perfect release as a tree. But the world is a dangerous place for trees, and deep in the forest a forester and a student lay claim to a body of wood and leaf - one for money and one for love. A subversion of Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Like flesh is the fruit of a collaboration between a group of committed young artists. The Israeli composer Sivan Eldar creates an intriguing sound world by combining orchestral and electro-acoustic music. The British playwright Cordelia Lynn is already well known in English theatre circles for, among other things, her collaboration with Katie Mitchell to re-stage The Tempest.

Theater director Thomas Ostermeier stages Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's timelessly magnificent "Threepenny Opera" with the ensemble of the Comédie Française in Aix-en-Provence, based on a new translation of the original text by Alexandre Pateau. In London's underworld district of Soho, the beggar king Jonathan Peachum and the criminal Macheath, known as Mackie Messer, are at war. The latter also seduces the daughter of the shady "businessman". When he finds out that the two have secretly celebrated a wedding, he decides to get rid of his rival. He is aided in his endeavors by Jenny, a cunning whore who betrays her ex-lover to the police. Back to the original: First performed in 1928, the opera parody strings together one biting musical number after another in cabaret style and jazz rhythm, breaking the boundaries of the genre, which until then had been considered bourgeois. Because the "Threepenny Opera" by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill is clearly political!

Spiced with Italian buffa, L’Heure espagnole transports us to Torquemada’s clock shop, the scene of his wife Concepcion’s infidelities.

Weary of tragic subjects, for the final part of Il Trittico Puccini composed a grand confidence trick orchestrated by a falsifier willing to do anything to gain wealth. Including bringing back the dead!

Director of Dance Benjamin Millepied pays tribute to his masters, George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins, two truly great choreographers, both of Russian origin, who led the American School, and dance in general, to rarely attained heights.
