Everything changes in Fani's life when the opportunity arises to do an exchange program and live in another country for a year. The revealing conversations by phone or MSN and the constant notes during the class turn to another subject: the upcoming trip.

The two sisters' departure leaves Suzana's husband, Francisco, bewildered and he ends up being also part of a parallel mad adventure.

Carlão is a prejudiced man who works in a car dealership with Cadinho, Zeca and Antunes. In conversations between them, Carlão always boasts of being the greatest soccer and mechanics savvy, all amidst macho and homophobic jokes. When Evaristo is the target of such verbal assaults, he pursues him and locks him in a magic locker. From there comes Carlinhos, a homosexual alter ego that takes over Carlão's body when night comes.

José Eduardo, known as Edu, is a successful businessman who is going on vacation with his wife and son. The confusion begins when, by mistake, Zé stays at Edu's luxury hotel, which, in turn, ends up at Zé's simple inn. This exchange provides experiences that the two families were not used to, but which ends up uniting them even more.

Based on Érico Verissimo's literary trilogy, Time and the Wind follows 150 years of the Terra Cambará family and their opponents, the Amaral family. The struggles between the two families begin in the missions and lasts until the end of the 19th century. The film also features the period of formation of the state of Rio Grande do Sul and the dispute of territory between the Portuguese and Spanish crowns.
