Second part of an epic drama of war and its effects upon human beings, follows the fortunes of the Godai family from 1935 through Japan's invasion of China. Based on the novels by Jumpei Gomikawa, who also penned The Human Condition.

Set in the time of steam locomotives and covering a period of almost 30 years, this sensitive film tells the story of the wife of a railroad worker in the northern part of Japan. The ferocious local class restrictions work to keep her husband in his place, as does his lack of education.

With no families to return to for summer vacation, three teenage boys spend their summer at their boarding school, alone and unsupervised. Darkness hangs over them after another boy shows up, who looks exactly like one of their classmates who had committed suicide months earlier. His arrival exposes the romances, jealousies, and tensions of growing up.

When teacher Kimura is assigned to Yuko’s Class A, 4th Grade, the children are very happy. But they are surprised to hear from her that she is expecting a baby in October. The children have learned many things. They have been brought closer together among themselves and they have gained a closer relationship with their parents. Above all, they have learned about some of the important things in life as they advance toward the still unknown realm of adulthood.

Shogo, the arrogant and condescending star of a popular call-in radio-show must temporarily broadcast out of Studio 6, a creepy and dilapidated booth abandoned since its last DJ committed suicide several years ago. Suddenly, Shogo begins receiving disturbing calls, the voice on the line whispers "Liar" over and over. Is the joke on him, has someone discovered the truth about his sinister past, or has the curse of Studio 6 been unleashed again? In this Booth, all sins will be atoned for.
