A woman and her daughter lives in Oostdijk, a village near Amsterdam. One night when the mother is on her way home, she is killed in a car accident in the street they live in.
The film is about a successful artist Vincent, whose marriage to Linda falls apart due to his success. This is partly because Vincent starts a relationship with Evelien. Another important event is the fatal traffic accident involving his son Erik.
Joep is a piano tuner, and not the best in his profession. His fiancee ends their relationship and Joep wants to end his life. Then he meets Dorien. They fall in love, but they must deal with some issues from the past--like an ex-lover and a hitman.

Patients in a psychiatric clinic are placed in a special home in the city, where they have access to the outside world. Another change to their previous situation is the fact that two female patients come to live with them.
Three robbers who have just robbed a gas station flee into the zoo. But in their haste, they lose the note telling them where they hid the money. The note is found by two children who help take care of the animals in their spare time... This is the beginning of an exciting adventure, in which the children track down the crooks. In a wild chase through the zoo, the animals also make themselves heard, and the children receive help from an unexpected source!
