MARKUS EICHE was born in St. Georgen im Schwarzwald, he studied in Karlsruhe and Stuttgart and is a prizewinner of several national and international competitions. He started his career at the National theater Mannheim, and there played the roles of Marcello (La Bohème), Wolfram (Tannhäuser), Papageno (Zauberflöte), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte) as well as the leading roles in Wozzeck and Don Giovanni. In the season 2007/2008, he became an ensemble member of the Wiener Staatsoper and sang among others, Marcello, Jeletzki, Belcore (L’elisir d’amore), Albert (Werther), Lescaut (Manon), Fritz/Frank, Valentin (Faust), Donner (Das Rheingold), Gunther (Götterdämmerung), Eugen Onegin, Don Juan (Aus einem Totenhaus), and Dr. Falke (Die Fledermaus). In addition, he has appeared as a guest at the Salzburger Festspielen, the Milan Scala, the Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam, the Semperoper Dresden, the Deutschen Staatsoper Berlin, the Finnish National Opera, the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, the Münchner Staatsoper and at the Bayreuther Festspielen. Anew production of Tannhäuser, which was premiered on 26 July 2019 and presented the Bayreuth debut of conductor Valery Gergiev, as well as the house debut of young soprano star Lise Davidsen. Tobias Kratzer’s staging presented Tannhäuser as a wildly contemporary parable of art and freedom which was praised as “novel” and “wrenching” (New York Times) and received exceptional press acclaim. hey were joined by mezzo soprano Elena Zhidkova’s Venus (“scene stealing”, according to Opera Today), baritone Markus Eiche’s Wolfram and Stephen Milling’s Landgraf.

Wagner's tale of the struggle between spiritual and profane love, and of redemption through love, is given a radical visual update in Sebastian Baumgarten's controversial yet thought-provoking Bayreuth production. Joep van Lieshout's giant installation 'The Technocrat'; dominates the stage, its industrial interior giving credence to the idea that Tannhäuser is one big experiment and playing host to some magnificent performances, among them Torsten Kerl's robust interpretation of the title role and Camilla Nylund's wonderfully empathetic Elisabeth. This Finnish National Opera production of the opera “Die tote Stadt” by Erich Wolfgang Korngold was staged by Kasper Holten, with Klaus Florian Vogt as Paul and Camilla Nylund as Marietta, while Mikko Franck directed the Finnish National Orchestra.

Richard Strauss' last stage work is an opera about opera as an art form, depicting the creation of a music drama in a wise and witty way. Which came first the words or the music? That is the question Strauss and his librettist Clemens Krauss address through the story of a Countess torn between a composer and a poet.

Frank Castorf revolutionised German-language theatre in the post-Berlin Wall era, bringing to the stage intellectual and political acuteness, brash references and a not infrequent use of crude humour. He brought these qualities to the Bayreuth Festival where his production of the Ring ran from 2013 to 2017. This 2016 recording of Das Rheingold captures Marek Janowski's festival debut as conductor of this unique production, in which Castorf replaces the Rheingold with oil as the central commodity in a pre-capitalist society. The first night of the Ring cycle begins at a gas station off of Route 66, the main road connecting the East and West coasts of the USA, that played an important role in commerce in the 1920s.

"Oil is the equivalent of what used to be gold. A luxury that we cannot eat," explained director Frank Castorf in an interview, outlining one of the key ideas behind his production of the Ring at Bayreuth. In the final part of the tetralogy, the wild journey ventures to the Buna chemical plants in Schkopau and to New York's Wall Street, among other places. Inspired by the aesthetic of Hollywood B movies, the production was first met with disapproval but grew to gain many supporters over the years.

From the Gran Teatre del Liceu - one of the great Wagner singers of our time in the lead role, Peter Seiffert is a nimble, youthful-voiced Tannhäuser He plays alongside Petra Maria Schnitzer as Elisabeth. As the goddess of love, Elisabeth’s counterpart Venus is portrayed by the stunning Béatrice Uria-Monzon. Sebastian Weigle, the Liceu’s principal conductor, gives a performance that the Spanish daily ABC wrote is “full of vitality and visibly inspired“heldentenor Peter Seiffert ruled the stage as the troubled artist.
