The story of the romance between the King of Siam (now Thailand) and the widowed British school teacher Anna Leonowens during the 1860s. Anna teaches the children and becomes romanced by the King. She convinces him that a man can be loved by just one woman.

Moon Lee, a celebrated award-winning actress, has become a full-time mom and divorcée since retiring. Desperate to regain her sense of self, she jumps at the chance to work with her long-time collaborator, director Roger Woo, again. Only this time, he casts her as the lead in a do-your-own stunts martial arts film. The role requires extensive training and though Moon is at first uncertain, she leaves her young son in the care of Roger’s assistant and commits herself to back-breaking training. As soon as she starts to gain some confidence, Roger breaks the news to her: the only way the film can move ahead is to cast her ex-husband, Julliard, as the male lead.

Rama is a supervisor who is looking for a driver at the last minute to deliver out of town. He manages to get Ah Meng and Bakri to do the task with additional overtime and bonus. The only catch is that they have to deliver a Chinese-style large wooden coffin on time. For the extra money, the two men take on the job and travel in the van through the quiet expressway. During the journey, the delivery van's radio player gets busted. To kill time, both men begin to tell ghost stories which they declare as genuine. Bakri starts off the ghost stories from his kampung that involves a young man and a banana tree spirit.

Rahul, an Indian immigrant worker arrives in town only to find the company that offered him a job has gone out of business. He is helped by a local restaurant owner and begins his life in the city as an illegal immigrant worker. In Setapak, Gienna is a Chinese woman in her 30's. She is constantly avoiding phone calls from her mother and finds herself spending an afternoon helping a stranger, a senile old lady, who can't remember where her house is. In Ampang, Hafidd a young man meets a cute stranger at the LRT Station after they both missed the last train. For someone who has never dated anyone in his life, this occasion is a life-defining moment for the young man and his only hope to see a glimpse of love. Together the 3 stories create a collage and kaleidoscope of surprising and electrifying human connections that give life to the city.

For the Balinese there are more important things than the accumulation of material wealth in one lifespan: They think it is better to lead their lives well and so acquire what they call Karma Pala. Good Karma ensures them rebirth into a new and potentially higher level of existence. The film looks at how the beliefs and occult ceremonies of these long bygone times have survived so well. The viewers witness some of the most mysterious rituals still to be found with one foot in the traditions of the past, the other firmly striding into the future.

In the 1930s, British officer John Truscott journeys to a remote village in colonial Malaysia to educate and Westernize the local Iban population. There, he's introduced to the lovely Selima. In keeping with tradition, Selima is assigned to sleep with Truscott and teach him the native language and customs. But when they fall in love, both colonists and natives object to their plans to marry.
