FRAGMENT. Young Hansen is deeply in love with his boss’s daughter and regularly meets with her in secret. One day, the boss catches them and throws Hansen out on his ear. Hansen goes to the local bar to drown his sorrows. Here he meets a man who gives him some quite special cigars: their smoke seems to have a magical effect. Whenever he puffs smoke into someone’s face, they can be persuaded to do anything. Will his boss also prove susceptible to the magic of the mysterious cigar? Only a fragment of the film survives. The man-hungry “vampire,” later to be popularized by America’s Theda Bara, made her screen debut in this Danish melodrama directed by August Blom. Clara Wieth starred in the title role of the Vampire Dancer, which is just what she was: a dancer performing her seductions on-stage. Off-stage, the young girl is kindhearted and a bit naïve. The lustful dance, during which Robert Dinesen succumbs to the dancer’s fatal charms, remained the centerpiece of the film, which was a popular success and made Wieth an international star.

Escaping the moving day mess at home, Holm seeks refuge with a good friend. Many hours, and a lot of whisky, later, Holm mistakenly returns to his old address, where the new tenants have long since gone to bed. (stumfilm.dk)
